on April 12, 2005. He hit a transit bus that was turning left across
his path of travel.
From: William E. Johns Date: Tue, 12 Apr 2005 09:37:32 -0700 Subject: Wes WoodsI knew Wes, rode with him on several occasions. One memorable trip was down to Joseph, OR. He wanted to do an overnight camping around Hell's canyon and did not know the roads down in that part of the world. I got a few local riders together, hooked up with Wes in Asotin and headed down as a pack. It's a beautiful ride, Rattlesnake grade is world class and we all had a good time. The back roads down in that part of the world aren't well marked, but we got Wes heading in the right direction and headed back. That was my last ride with him. God Speed Wes, Bill

From: Whitman College President Tom Cronin Date: Apr 12, 2005Whitman Campus Community, I am extremely sad to inform the Whitman Community that one of our greatly valued WCTS colleagues, Wes Woods, died this afternoon as a result of a collision he had on his motorcycle with a Valley Transit bus. Wes was returning to work having been home for lunch. Wes joined the Whitman staff in September of 1991. He was a dedicated colleague who loved his family (wife Toni, Daughter Jennifer and son James) and he loved his motorcycle, sailing and life. His colleagues remember him, among many other things, for coming in early and grinding and making the coffee at 7:30 every morning, even though he no longer drank coffee. We will remember Wes for his countless projects upgrading our computer systems. Please keep Wes and his family in your prayers and thoughts. President Tom Cronin
From: Randall Mietzner Date: May 25, 2005 9:43 AM Subject: Re: Motolist and Wes WoodsI attended the recent Wetleather event, the Lousisiana Fish Fry in Vancouver WA. As I was dishing up some food, Jon Diaz asked if I had gone to the services for Wes Woods. I was taken aback, and asked how/when and Jon helped me dish up the plate. I was a early poster on motolist, Wes and I both got back into motorcycling in 1993. We both had mid-80s Hondas and conincientally, workked in similar capacities in IT admin systems for Student Enrollment management of Online and Batch systems. I was in his neighborhood as I work and live in Pullman WA. He was my first riding buddy as a re-entrant rider. Lolo Pass assault 1993, Wes and I went on this ride to Lolo Pass on Labor Day weekend. with about 25 or so other riders who were part of the MC List, Wetleather. We rode up to Lolo Pass, Wes and I with Chris SPindler. Chris was on his old airheadBeemer and flet it was a bit strained trying to keep up with Wes and I, on the 6-speed Hondas. Somewhere after passing the 'Next 77 miles' w/curvy arrow sign we took a break. Chris took his helmet off and said 'You call that a relaxed pace!' Well, Wes and I had been into muscle cars as well as motorcycles in the mid-1960s, so we were simply doing what comes natural for ol'hot Rodders. Both Wes and I I gave Chris our best inncoent Who Us? look. Chris was surprized to find out we were both re-entrant riders with only a couple of monthss of recent riding experience. We had a campout across from the commmercial hotsprings. Wes and I shared one of the TeePees. Riding back we hooked up with Dave Wise. Pretty uneventful, except for the time, Dave passed an RV and met a full dress Harly bagger who saw him coming and had shifted over to the far RH side of the lane, phew. Coming into Lewiston, on US `12, I had an ISP behind me and I was flashing myhighbeam but Dave and Wes didn't notice so I pulled over to the RH lane, and the ISP went to Blue lights and pulled over the guys. I pulled in and waited for the ISP to do his business. I think the ISP let the 10 or so over go, but popped them both for no insurance. We went to saome eateerry with a salad bar. I was going to hhead north and home and they both were heading west. Wes was pissed at the amount and just the ISP's 'tude. The next time we rode together was a transit, mostly slabbing to Vancouver and back to a WL event at the Goldings residence. Wes was a great guy to ride with he always had a ready smile. It's nice having a riding buddy who usually brought along some steel for emergency siturations. I dropped off motolist and have been acitve on Wetleather, but I still got together or sent Wes private emails. WHen he got his ST11 I replied I also had a new ride, a Ducati Monster. He replied in CAPS, "YOU GOT A WHAT!?!" We only got together infrequently over the years but our friendship never wavered. We met up one time on the road, a ride and overnight camp at the OR St park south of Ukiah. We talked about bikes annd the differences in our systems with his WHitman only 1500 in enrololement, and WSU about 10 times that more Main framed based, but si milar issures. I liked the way he carried himself, his ready smile and comebacks. and a straight shooter. He will be missed. Randall aka BlackBbear (I got this nickname at the Lolo Pass ride when I got ticketed for no MC endorsement - story told better over a beverage)
