Weekly Photo Challenge

It's Monday, time for the weekly photo challenge.  Photos due next Monday.  Michael suggested motion, book, outdoors.  How about we just go with motion this time.

Weekly Assignment - Movement

I was just informed about the weekly assignments.... cool!

Here is my attempt. I'm turning in early!  Laughing

Excellent Lisa

I saw that from your post on WL and was hoping you were on this forum. I have a couple 'moving' cat photos taken this week but am hoping to get something better tomorrow (Ironman). --Terry

Soccer

Not much time for photography this week, but I did get this shot on Saturday:

Yes, it's backlit by the sun, and the 40mm lens on my Canonet really isn't the best choice for action photography. But when I saw John charging towards me with the ball and the camera was in my hand, what was I to do? I brought the camera up just in time to capture a Eugene player taking out John with a nice slide tackle Surprised I just wish the photo could have turned out a little better.

BTW my son CJ is in the background immediately to the left of John (the airborne player).

Looking through my older photos I think my favorite "motion" shot is this one:

I shot this about six months ago.

Dipping into the archives myself

I also didn't have much time to shoot this past week, so I pulled this shot out from some stuff I took on a business trip last year.  Dennis

Leaf in Water

More animals in motion

This one is also from the recent archives. Riley was absolutely loopy when he had a chance to run through this wonderfully tall grass.

Happy Dog!

That shot really captures the "labrador" personality!  I hope I have a chance to raise a lab someday :-)

Crazy People in Motion

I was lucky in that there was lots of motion in Kona on Saturday (Ironman). Got there at 6am (start was 7) but couldn't get anywhere near the start so missed all that. Spent an hour or so shooting the bike ride just after they emerged from the water. Tried fiddling with rear curtain sync on the flash with some interesting results. RCS fires after the ambient exposure which is suppose to give you a nice trail off with a crisp leading edge. Worked a couple times but I got a lot of junk (threw away 90% of what I took). Also had to crank the flash way back as it wanted to totally blow out the scene in the neutral setting. I think this is because the background (rock wall) was really dark. http://www.tkpowell.com/ironman07/index.htm --Terry

Nice flash experiments

Very nice!  I find it interesting to compare 2433-2 (with flash) to 2435-2 (no flash).  If you had not labeled them with/without flash, it would be hard to tell which was which.

Flash vs No Flash

Yeah, not that much difference. You'd see a much greater effect if the overall light was darker. I'll see if I can find some samples. dpreview.com is a great place for this (light technique forum) but my pword seems to be hosed at the moment so search doesn't work. --Terry

Shows up better here

I'll have to check out that forum on dpreview.com.  I think your pic 2482 shows the effect of the trailing sync pretty well when you look at the spokes - particularly the front wheel.

motion

I tried these at PR the weekend before last. Talking with Brandon Bones, the track photog, I need to be closer to the action to get the affects I was looking for. So, there are what I got from behind the fence with my stock lense. :/

Motos in action

Nice action. I like the first one best. Nice light and colors. That all white suit on the Duc shot...hmmmmm...??? :-) Brandon really does nice work. Was looking at some karting shots he took in the rain. Really cool. --Terry
