My grandson is being comforted and monitored courtesy of Weatherbee Media LLC.
Cynthia and Ben and Preston went home from the hospital yesterday afternoon and moved to the main-floor bedroom from the basement, so that Cynthia didn't have to do stairs to get to the bathroom. There weren't enough electrical outlets in that bedroom. So I loaned them the surge suppressor / power strip that came from Dell with my dev computer, since I have the important parts plugged into my UPS anyway. So now the company-supplied powerstrip serves the nursery monitor and phone chargers and TV and maybe the stuffed bear that makes womb noises - but I think he runs on C-cells.
Great.
But my cell phone rang this morning when I was expecting a landline call. The Linksys/Vonage VoIP router was dark. Apparently, plugging and unplugging stuff last night took out the Vonage router. My "landline" VoIP phone doesn't work, so calls were forwarded to my cell. The Linksys wall-wart measured 0.0v on my pocket VOM, as opposed to the "12v" printed on the label.
Aha! But I did have an unused wall-wart with 12v center-positive and an appropriately sized Tiny Johnson in my bin of old and spare parts! It goes to a Netgear router I'm not using right now. 12v nominal on the label, vs.16.2v actual measured, but better than 0. So I have "landline" phone again, and the coffee's still warm.
Life is good.
