Ingredients: | Bars:
2 c flour 1-1/4 c sugar 1/4 c brown sugar 1/2 c margarine or softened butter 1/2 c nuts (never gone this route) 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cinnamon (or more, if your want) 3/4 spt salt 1 c buttermilk 1 spt vanilla 1 egg Frosting: 2 c icing sugar 3-4 Tbsp milk or half and half 1/4 tsp almond extract (vanilla is an option, but I wouldn't) |
||
Preparation: | Preheat oven to 350F.
Combine flour, sugar, brown sugar, margarine; blend until crumbly. Press 2 cups of this mixture into a 13x9 pan (essentially making a crust). To remaining crumb mixture, add remaining ingredients and blend. Pour over crust and bake for 20-25 minutes ('til toothpick comes out clean). Blend frosting ingredients and spread over bars after they have cooled for 20 minutes (you want them warm enough to spread the frosting, but not too hot). Cut into bars and serve. |

Notes: | I think the almond extract in the frosting really makes these things special. | ||
